The Northern Health and Social Care Trust is encouraging anyone impacted by suicide to seek support from its Bereaved by Suicide service, as a new programme of support groups gets underway this month in Ballymena, Coleraine and Cookstown.
The specialist service provides one-to-one support, information and guidance for adults affected by the suicide of a family member, friend, colleague or other significant person in their life.
The new support groups offer an opportunity to connect with others who have experienced a similar loss. Recognising that bereavement following suicide can be a particularly complex and isolating experience, the groups provide a safe and confidential space where participants can share experiences, gain understanding and find comfort from people who understand the unique challenges of bereavement by suicide.
Claire Murray, from the Bereaved by Suicide service, said: “Losing someone to suicide can have a profound impact on individuals, families and communities. Many people tell us they feel isolated in their grief and struggle to find others who truly understand what they are experiencing.
“Our Bereaved by Suicide Support Groups offer a safe and compassionate environment where people can connect with others who have lived through a similar loss. We know that support from people who understand can make a real difference.
“It’s important to remember that there is no right or wrong time to seek help. Whether someone has been bereaved recently or many years ago, our service is here to provide support when they feel ready.”
The Bereaved by Suicide service recognises that grief affects everyone differently and that there is no time limit on seeking support.
People can access the service directly using the contact details below, via their GP or by referral from any Trust key worker.
Support is available to people aged 18 and over who live or work within the Northern Trust area, including Antrim and Newtownabbey, Causeway Coast and Glens, Mid and East Antrim, and Mid Ulster.
