How we fit into Health and Social Care in Northern Ireland
The Department of Health is responsible for health and social care services in Northern Ireland.
The Department works with organisations, including the Public Health Agency, the five health and social care trusts, and the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service to plan and deliver these services.
The Northern Trust is one of these five health and social care trusts.
Each organisation has its own role but is accountable to the Department of Health. The Department is accountable to the Health Minister and, in turn, to the Northern Ireland Assembly.
Health and Social Care Trusts are the main providers of health and social care services to the public.
Each Trust manages its own staff, services, and budget.
