The Court Children’s Service helps family courts decide what is best for children when parents who are separating cannot agree on care or contact arrangements.
This service only takes referrals from the courts and works under the direction of the judge handling the case.
Court Children’s Officers make sure the child’s voice is heard during court proceedings. They speak to children and families, gather information, and advise the court on what arrangements would be in the child’s best interests.
They also work with parents to try and reach an agreement that focuses on the needs of the child. If an agreement is reached, it is presented to the court for approval.
