The Community Dental Service provides specialist dental care for people who may have difficulty accessing regular dental services.

Who can use this service?

This service is by referral only. You may be referred if your dental care cannot be provided by a general dentist.

Referrals can be made by:

• A general dental practitioner (dentist)
• Another Health and Social Care professional

All referrals are reviewed to check that the service is the right fit for your needs.

How we can help

We offer a range of services, including:

• Specialist dental care in clinics and hospitals
• Treatment with inhalation sedation (sometimes called “gas and air”) to help you relax
• Oral health checks for people living in nursing and residential homes
• Home visits for patients who are unable to attend a clinic

Promoting oral health

We also provide targeted programmes to improve oral health for:

• Young children
• Adults with additional or special care needs
