Adult centres provide day care to people with a learning disability who may have complex health care needs and/or behaviours of concern.
The centres provide structured activities and therapies, including support with daily care needs, sensory stimulation, rebound therapy, drama, arts and crafts, recreational activities, music, and access to advocacy groups.
Each adult centre has specially trained day care staff, assisted by a team of different professionals that provides a person-centred approach to care planning. This ensures that the specific and complex needs of individuals are met in this environment.
Specialist support is provided by other services, including, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, social work, community nursing, dental services and the Positive Behaviour Service.
The adult centres are inspected annually by the Regional Quality Improvement Authority and have monthly quality monitoring undertaken in line with the day care minimum standards.
