Rheumatology Occupational Therapy

In Rheumatology Occupational Therapy we are continually trying to improve your quality of life by reducing the strain on your joints and helping you continue with your daily tasks.

What can the Occupational Therapist do?

The Occupational Therapist can give advice on:

  • looking after your joints;
  • coping with your pain & tiredness;
  • how to manage with difficulties encountered with everyday tasks eg cooking, washing, dressing and driving;
  • maintaining hand function through exercise
  • teach relaxation to help with pain and tiredness

The Occupational Therapist can provide:

  • splints to help cope with pain/inflammation in the hand;
  • equipment for home to assist with managing stairs, bath, toilet and kitchen

How to access the service

How can I see an Occupational Therapist?

If you have attended the Rheumatology Clinic you may ask your consultant to refer you to the Rheumatology Occupational Therapist.

If you have not attended the Rheumatology Clinic, you will need your GP to refer you to the Rheumatology Occupational Therapy Service.

If you have already attended Rheumatology Occupational Therapy and you are experiencing difficulty with everyday tasks, you may contact your occupational therapist on 028 2563 5251.
