Our Personality Disorder Service provides talking therapies for people aged 18 and over who have been diagnosed with Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (also known as Borderline Personality Disorder), or who have similar difficulties.
Individuals must have a community mental health team key worker throughout treatment.
We know that there are many different important and valid opinions about the diagnosis of personality disorders. While some people may feel that these terms helpfully describe their difficulties, we also appreciate that some people can find it very unsettling to receive the diagnosis of ‘Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder’, or ‘Borderline Personality Disorder’.
As a service, we do our best to be led by the sense you make of these terms. Our mission is to be alongside you, understand the things you find difficult, and to figure out how we can work together to help you live well. We will always talk to you about your feelings about your diagnosis.
Types of talking therapies
We offer two types of talking therapy—Mentalisation-Based Therapy (MBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). Both are delivered in groups.
We also give advice and support to other healthcare staff to help them in their caring for people with personality disorders.
