Research, audit and service improvement

The Northern Trust is committed to the continuous improvement of stroke care through research, innovation and quality improvement.

Our dedicated Stroke Research Nurses work with clinical teams to support participation in local, national and international research studies. This helps ensure patients have access to developments in stroke treatment and rehabilitation.

Antrim Area Hospital and Causeway Hospital participate in the Sentinel Stroke National Audit Programme (SSNAP), which monitors the quality of stroke services and supports ongoing improvements in patient care and outcomes.

We work closely with partner organisations including:

  • The Stroke Association
  • Chest, Heart & Stroke Northern Ireland

Patients and families may be referred to these organisations for additional information, emotional support, education and practical assistance following stroke.
