Our dietitians work alongside therapeutic teams to support individuals diagnosed with anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa. They also work closely with families and carers throughout each stage of treatment. In cases where physical health is compromised, our dietitians aim to reduce medical risk through meal planning, nutritional guidance, the use of nutritional supplements and ongoing health monitoring.
We help individuals understand the connection between physical health, how they think, and emotional wellbeing. We also provide education on the importance of maintaining balanced eating for recovery and support the development of structured eating patterns.
As treatment progresses, we help to tackle common myths about food, weight and health and challenge unhelpful thoughts related to body image and eating.
Our dietitians also assist individuals to rebuild their relationship with eating, ensuring their nutritional intake matches their specific needs and lifestyle.
How to access the service
If you think you or someone you know has an eating disorder, the first step is to visit your GP. Your GP will carry out a thorough assessment to rule out any other medical cause for your symptoms. They will then refer you to one of our community mental health teams and to the Eating Disorder Service for assessment and treatment.
