Advice on going home after the birth of your baby (text version)

Congratulations on the birth of your baby

Our maternity staff at the Northern Trust have made this video to help provide you with some key information about going home with your baby.

You can watch this video as many times as you like through our maternity services webpage. If you have any questions please speak to your midwife or GP. Please also refer to the Public Health Agency’s Birth to Five book for more information Birth to five (Public Health Agency).

Hello my name is Ellen and I am your midwife – I want to talk you through some important topics for your discharge from hospital with your new baby.

Car seat safety

When travelling home please ensure that you use a suitable approved car seat for your baby’s age and weight, and check that the straps are secure.

It is safest for baby to be placed rear facing in the back seat of the car.  If you have to place baby into the front seat, you need to ensure the airbag system is turned off.

For more information on car seat safety, please visit the NHS or nidirect website.
