Maternity care

We provide maternity care at Antrim Area Hospital and Causeway Hospital, supported by a dedicated team of community midwives. Our aim is to ensure you and your family receive the right care, in the right place, at every stage of your pregnancy, birth and early parenthood.

During your pregnancy, you can view details of your maternity appointments and some test results through the My Care patient portal.

Antrim Area Hospital

Antrim Area Hospital provides the full range of maternity services, including inpatient and outpatient maternity care, labour and birth services, an Emergency Obstetric Unit, Obstetric care, postnatal care and neonatal support. You may attend a range of antenatal and specialist clinics during your pregnancy, including routine check-ups, scans, midwifery-led clinics and specialist services such as diabetes and multiple pregnancy clinics. Care is also provided through our Day Obstetric Unit, where additional monitoring or assessment may be required.

Causeway Hospital

Causeway Hospital provides comprehensive maternity care, including support from midwives during pregnancy and after your baby is born. You can attend antenatal clinics for regular check-ups and scans. There is also a specialist maternity clinic that provides routine care throughout pregnancy.

Your maternity care options

We offer different maternity care options to suit you and your family. During your pregnancy, we will talk with you about your care and help you choose what’s best for you, based on your health, your pregnancy history and your preferences.

We support you to make informed decisions about your care. If you have a low-risk pregnancy, you will have the option of giving birth in our Alongside Midwifery-Led Unit (AMLU), where midwives support you in a calm, comfortable, home-like setting. Our unit is due to open before the end of summer 2026.

If your pregnancy is more complex or you need extra medical support, we will recommend care within our obstetric-led maternity services. This ensures you and your baby receive the safest care possible.

Our aim is to provide care that is safe, supportive and tailored to your individual needs and choices.
