Welcome to the Midwifery-Led Unit at Antrim Area Hospital. This short tour will show you around the unit and help you understand what you can expect if you choose to have your baby here. When you’re in labor, having easy access to the unit matters.

Convenient parking is available close by, helping make your arrival as straightforward and stress-free as possible. From the moment you arrive, you’ll be welcomed into a comfortable environment designed to feel as much like home as possible, while continuing to provide safe, high-quality maternity care.

Throughout your labor and birth, you’ll be supported by highly skilled midwives who provide personalized one-to-one care and regularly monitor both you and your baby. Each of our birth rooms have been designed to support a positive birth experience. All rooms feature a birthing pool, which can be used during labor and birth. Water is one of the several options available to help promote comfort and relaxation. The rooms can be adapted to suit your preferences with adjustable lighting and space for up to two birth partners to support you throughout your labor.

We encourage active labor and offer equipment such as birthing balls, mats, and supportive slings. Your midwife can also support you with a range of comfort measures, including breathing and relaxation techniques, massage, and gas and air. Each room has its own private bathroom, providing comfort and privacy throughout your stay.

While the midwifery-led unit is a safe option for women with low-risk pregnancies, every birth journey is unique. If additional medical support is needed, you can be transferred quickly to the neighboring obstetric unit, where specialist maternity teams are available. Your midwife will talk with you during your pregnancy and help you decide what is best for you and your baby. Whatever your birth journey looks like, our team is here to support you every step of the way.
