Crisis Team (Step 3 CAMHS)

Our Crisis Resolution Team quickly assesses referrals for children and young people who may need urgent mental health support.

If appropriate, we provide short‑term, intensive support to help young people and their families at home or in the community. This can include:

  • Assessing and managing risk
  • Supporting young people through a mental health crisis
  • Providing an alternative to staying in hospital where possible

How to access this service

Referrals must be made by a professional, such as:

  • A GP
  • Health and social care staff
  • Education professionals

We do not accept self-referrals.

All referrals go through the Children’s Referral Service (CRS).

When to refer

We accept referrals for urgent mental health concerns, including:

  • Serious self-harm or threats of self-harm
  • Suicidal thoughts or high risk of suicide
  • Severe anxiety, depression, or mood difficulties
  • Acute psychotic symptoms (loss of touch with reality)

Urgent hospital presentations

Any young person (up to age 18) who attends Antrim Area Hospital or Causeway Hospital during clinic hours and needs urgent mental health support will be offered an emergency assessment by the Crisis Resolution Team.

  • Outside clinic hours, our Mental Health Liaison Team will assess and refer on if needed.

For out-of-hours support, you can contact Dalriada Urgent Care (Dal-Doc) on 028 2566 3500.
