Our Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) supports children, young people and their families who are experiencing moderate to severe mental health difficulties that significantly affect their daily life.
We aim to provide high-quality, evidence-based assessment and support. We work closely with each young person and their family or carers to understand their needs and agree the best plan of care together.
We are a community-based service made up of professionals from different backgrounds, all with experience in supporting children, young people and families with a range of difficulties.
Our team
During their time with the service, a young person may meet different members of our team, including:
- Social workers
- Nurses
- Clinical psychologists
- Psychiatrists
- Occupational therapists
- Psychodynamic psychotherapists
- Family therapists
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) therapists
We also have staff available to offer a Deaf CAMHS service for young people who experience hearing difficulties.
All team members work closely together to make sure your child receives the most appropriate care and support.
First appointment
All young people referred to the service will be offered an initial (CHOICE) appointment. This gives us the opportunity to understand the difficulties they are experiencing. Together with you and your child, we will agree a plan for next steps.
This plan may include:
- Ongoing support from Specialist CAMHS
- Ongoing support from the Children’s Early Intervention Service (CEIS)
- Referral to another service or voluntary organisation
- Discharge, if specialist support is not needed
