We provide diabetes care across the Northern Trust. Our services are delivered by a team of specialists who work together to support you.
This team may include:
- Diabetes doctors (diabetologists)
- Specialist nurses
- Podiatrists (foot care experts)
- Dietitians
- A psychologist
Diabetes inpatient services and clinics
Diabetes inpatient services are available at Antrim Area Hospital and Causeway Hospital.
While in hospital, we will:
- Help you understand your diabetes
- Support you to manage your condition
- Plan your care when you leave hospital
We also run consultant-led and nurse-led clinics at different locations across the Trust.

You can be referred to our service by:

- Hospital services
Many GP practices run diabetes clinics. Diabetes specialist nurses support some GPs to deliver these clinics.

Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm
Diabetes and pregnancy
Planning a pregnancy (pre-conception care)
Planning ahead can improve outcomes for both parent and baby.
We offer pre-conception diabetes clinics if you are thinking about having a baby.
- Ask your GP to refer you if you are not already under diabetes care
- Clinics are held weekly in Antrim and Ballymena
Diabetes during pregnancy (gestational diabetes)
Some people develop diabetes during pregnancy, often later on.
We provide fast access to specialist care, with a team including:
- Midwives
- Diabetes specialist nurses
- Diabetes doctors
- Obstetricians
Clinics take place at Antrim Area Hospital.
