The Northern Trust has a specialist Young Parents Midwife who supports mums aged 19 and under. She is there to guide you throughout your pregnancy, offering practical advice, reassurance and ongoing support.

  • Signs and stages of labour
  • Pain relief and relaxation techniques
  • Feeding your baby
  • Creating a birth plan
  • A tour of the labour ward

You may also be able to attend:

  • Hypnobirthing classes
  • Antenatal yoga
  • Breastfeeding workshops

Where you will be seen

  • Ballymena or Antrim areas: Appointments take place at home or at Ballymena Health and Care Centre
  • All young parents across the Northern Trust can also get advice and support through a text messaging service.

Family Nurse Partnership

The Family Nurse Partnership is a free programme for first-time young mums. A specially trained nurse will visit you at home from early pregnancy until your child is two years old.

The programme aims to:

  • Support a healthy pregnancy
  • Give your child the best possible start in life
  • Help you plan for your future, including education or work

The programme focuses on building your confidence as a parent and helping you make the most of your strengths and skills.

This service is especially helpful for young parents who may need extra support.
