Support to stop smoking during pregnancy

Stopping smoking during pregnancy is one of the best things you can do for your health and your baby’s health.

Pregnancy can be a powerful motivation to quit. By giving up smoking, you’re making a positive choice for both you and your baby.

Research shows you are up to four times more likely to stop smoking with professional support than by trying on your own.

At your booking appointment, your carbon monoxide (CO) level will be checked in line with NICE guidance. You may be offered extra support from our Specialist Midwifery Team if you:

  • smoke
  • have a high CO reading
  • have recently stopped smoking

There is a range of support available for you and your partner, based on your preferences, including:

  • face-to-face appointments
  • telephone support
  • advice on managing cravings and stressful situations
  • guidance on nicotine replacement treatments that may suit you
