Outpatient (Home) induction of labour

Some women may be offered outpatient induction using the balloon catheter, allowing them to return home during the cervical ripening phase.

Benefits:

  • Opportunity for rest
  • Support from family and birth partners
  • Reduced anxiety associated with prolonged hospital stays

When to contact the Maternity Unit

Please contact the Maternity Unit straight away if you experience any of the following:

  • Regular strong contractions
  • Waters breaking
  • Vaginal bleeding
  • Reduced fetal movements
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Concerns about your baby’s wellbeing
