Getting ready for baby programme

The ‘Getting ready for baby programme’ helps parents build the skills and confidence they need to give their baby the best possible start in life.

The programme is run in small groups, giving you the chance to meet other expectant parents and involve your partner or support person. It combines practical advice, health checks, and information about caring for your baby, with a strong focus on your baby’s emotional wellbeing and development.

What you’ll learn

The programme includes three sessions for first-time parents, covering:

  • Understanding pregnancy and preparing for birth
  • Getting to know your baby before they are born
  • What to expect during labour and birth
  • How to support yourself and your baby during labour
  • Feeding your baby
  • Caring for your newborn

Taking part can help you feel more prepared, confident and supported as you get ready to welcome your baby.

Your midwife can provide more information.

Remember to inform your manager that you are entitled to attend these classes as part of your antenatal care.
