Diabetes Prevention Programme

The Diabetes Prevention Programme is a new programme for people who have had a blood test which indicates that their blood sugar is slightly above the normal range.

(Either ‘HbA1c’ test result between 42-47mmol or a Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG) test result between 5.5-6.9/mmol).

The good news is that if you are in this position we would like to offer you a place on the Diabetes Prevention Programme. This programme is here to help you reduce your risk of getting Diabetes.

Why should I go to the programme?

People attending the programme will receive help on healthy eating and how to establish better habits for improving long term health.

You are not alone. Up to 20 people will attend with you so that you can learn as a part of a group. You are also welcome to bring along a friend or family member for support.

How do I get invited to a programme?

Firstly your GP has to refer you to us. When we receive the referral, we will contact you and invite you on to a local programme.

What happens then?

At your first session you will meet your coach, who will help you each time you attend. You will be invited to check your weight, and you will be asked how you feel about your own health.

We want you to build healthy habits and that takes time! You will be given an information booklet, tips to see your health progress and a pedometer to help you count your steps.

You will attend an initial two hour session, with follow up sessions taking place for an hour.
